Sakhee Project empowers transgender women as health intermediaries to enable childhood immunisation in urban slums using Digital Talking Comics. It tackles low vaccine uptake due to misinformation, access barriers, and hesitancy. Transgender storytellers share age-specific, culturally relevant digital stories & communication with families, identifying zero-dose children and supporting timely vaccination. The project improves child health, reduces exclusion, and strengthens health systems. Piloted in Thane’s slums, it’s a scalable, inclusive, and tech-enabled model that merges trust, tradition, and innovation to reach underserved populations.
